WHY?

In September of 2013 my Mother Janet had a heart attack. We were at the Crown Theatre in Perth about to watch a show and she wasn’t feeling well.
After getting my mother out of the theatre into the foyer she collapsed and I performed CPR to revive her. Luckily she survived (she is an amazing cook, cant live without that).
Mother was overweight and a smoker. This combination along with her family history of cardiovascular disease ended in a very unpleasant evening and months to follow.
Mum quit smoking and had a gastric sleeve to help her lose the weight for good. I learnt that Cardiovascular Disease was Australia’s biggest killer and I wanted to do something about it.
During my training journey for Queen of Hearts Run & Ride, I got the opportunity to join the Royal Flying Doctor Service and work as a Manager of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality.
The Heart Foundation and the Royal Flying Doctor Service complement each other in various ways. The Heart Foundation focuses on promoting heart health and preventing heart disease through education, research, and support services.
On the other hand, the Royal Flying Doctor Service provides emergency medical services to people in remote and rural areas, including those who may be at risk of heart-related emergencies. Together, they work towards improving overall health outcomes and access to healthcare for all Australians
